Asha Bantan - Collector's
Journey
Asha is a rastafarian gentleman
who has filled his small council flat in Hillfields,
Coventry, from floor to ceiling with a breathtaking
and bewildering array of genuine African artworks
and European objects with Africa and African people
as their theme.
When we first met Asha at his
home we were inspired to run an exhibition celebrating
his collection, but soon realised that Asha himself
would have to be the centre of the show.
Kate
Rossin has produced a series of photographic
portraits of Asha and his house, Jon Randle a
documentary video and Jeff Hatt has curated a
selection of sculptural artefacts from Asha's
astounding collection.
Show runs from 7th November
- 28th November
*** Asha
will play a selection of his music (he's also
a DJ on Hills FM and MC for a Coventry sound system)
deliver a talk and hold a Q&A session about
his life and the collecting instinct that has
transformed his house beyond recognition, on SATURDAY
14th NOVEMBER at 2PM. Admission £3 on the
door ***
